Echoes of the Infirm 7

This is the outside - back entrance I think - of a creepy old-folks home in Midland Texas. It's been empty for a long time, I used to see it every morning in the dark just before sunrise as I finished my paper rout. The doors are locked, glass is cracked and broken here and there, the parking lot is in disrepair. From what I can see of the inside the walls are peeling, the flooring is streaked and covered in dirt and debris. Looking up at the balconies there are few of the metal stands that hold fluid I.V. bags just sitting out there... looking into the "dining" room there are chairs overturned, game-pieces and papers littering the floor.

I imagine all the old hearts that broke in that place while looking out those windows, waiting for someone to visit. I imagine the routines, assisted living; care-givers sometimes become friends, but they don't fill the void. They're not family... family is at home... and this isn't home.
In this place bodies become alien, minds clouded, and time becomes cruel.

Though I'm living in a different city this place still haunts me, like a cloud of diesel-smoke engulfing my emotions.
